Monica started Pilates to help manage a knee injury from sport. She discovered a connection between her knee rehabilitation and strengthening her core. Pilates also improved her body awareness and helped her manage chronic lower back pain. Regular practice contributed to moving with less pain.
That experience encouraged her to become a Pilates teacher. She enjoys sharing her enthusiasm with people who want to improve their posture and strength. Healthy ageing and helping people remain independent for as long as possible are particular interests.
Monica has lived and worked in Shanghai and Singapore, and is now based back in her hometown of Amsterdam.
She completed the Polestar Pilates Studio Comprehensive programme, which takes a rehabilitation-based approach to Pilates. Her continuing education includes Buff Bones with Rebekah Rotstein, Anatomy Trains with Thomas Myers, and the Pelvic Floor Fascia Trainer Course with Erik Franklin. She is also a certified yoga teacher (Yoga Alliance, 200 hours).
Monica speaks fluent Dutch, English and Mandarin. At Pilates Noord, she teaches reformer classes and private sessions in Dutch and English.
