PILATES FOR BACK PAIN

Pilates is an effective training method recommended by many physiotherapists for people with back problems. Whether you suffer from a stiff lower back, are recovering from a herniated disc, or are experiencing discomfort in your upper back, shoulders, and/or neck, Pilates helps you work on recovery, strength, and mobility in a safe and controlled way.

At Pilates Noord, we expertly guide you in reducing your symptoms and strengthening your body. We focus not only on treating symptoms but also on improving your posture, movement patterns, and muscle balance. This way, you’ll work towards a lasting solution.

What do we work on for back pain?

To effectively address back pain, we focus on the following essential components:

✓ Breathing. Proper breathing supports the stability of your torso and helps reduce tension in the neck, shoulders and lower back.

✓ Mobility of the spine.
By learning to move the spine smoothly — segment by segment — you improve blood circulation and reduce stiffness.

✓ Mobilizing the hip and shoulder joints.
Limited mobility in the hips or shoulders directly affects the strain on your back. We ensure better coordination between these joints.

✓ Stabilization of the pelvis and shoulders.
You will learn how to consciously stabilize your pelvis and shoulder girdle, which is essential for a healthy posture and a strong foundation.

✓ Strengthening the core muscles.
The abdominal, back, and deeper core muscles together form your core. A strong core supports your spine and helps prevent recurring complaints.

✓ Stretching and relaxation.
Targeted stretching exercises reduce muscle tension and improve your range of motion.

Working responsibly and personally on recovery.

Our classes prioritize quality of movement. You’ll train at a relaxed pace, with a strong focus on technique and body awareness. This way, you’ll not only learn to become stronger but also to better understand what your body needs.

We also offer the Pilates Back Care class specifically for people with back pain. This class focuses entirely on reducing back pain, improving stability, and building confidence in movement.

Important to know:

Are you experiencing acute or severe pain? Always consult your doctor or physiotherapist before participating.

If you experience pain or significant discomfort during the class, stop immediately.
Listen to your body: if an exercise doesn’t feel right, skip it and rest.

Safety and care are always our top priority.

We’re happy to help you move more freely, strongly, and confidently. We hope to see you soon in class!
